About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that originated in China over 2,000 years ago and is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine . It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body known as acupuncture points or acupoints. These points correspond to pathways, or meridians, through which vital energy, or Qi, flows.

At its core, it is based on the belief that the body, mind, and spirit are interconnected, and that imbalances within these aspects can lead to illness:

The goal of acupuncture is to restore balance and harmony to the body's energy flow

According to TCM theory, imbalances or blockages in the flow of Qi can lead to illness and discomfort. By stimulating acupuncture points, acupuncture aims to promote the smooth flow of Qi, regulate the body's functions, and facilitate natural healing processes.

Acupuncture is used to address a wide range of physical, emotional, and mental health conditions, including pain management, stress reduction, anxiety, depression, digestive disorders, respiratory issues, hormonal imbalances, and more. It is often sought out as a complementary therapy to conventional medical treatments or as a standalone holistic approach to wellness.

My approach

I provide highly personalised acupuncture treatments, tailoring my approach to address each patient's specific needs and health concerns. Sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes and may involve additional techniques such as cupping, moxibustion (the burning of dried mugwort near the skin), or dietary and lifestyle recommendations to support overall well-being.

At my clinic, I prioritise evidence-based practices to ensure the highest standard of care for my patients. Acupuncture, a cornerstone of our treatments, is rooted in scientific research and has been shown to offer numerous health benefits.

For those seeking a deeper understanding of the scientific underpinnings of acupuncture, I recommend exploring the resources available on EvidenceBasedAcupuncture.org.
